The R language is an incredibly powerful data analysis tool. I haven't touched it for months, and the longer I go before I have to use it again, the happier I will be. That said, I can read and use R code.
It might be better these days, but when I started using it, the learning curve was both steep and high. I used it for a specific task for a month or two, then put it aside for a few months, and came back to it when I needed to use it again. The first half dozen or so times I came back to it, it felt like I was starting from scratch each time. Eventually it started to sink in. These days, I'm not up to date with the latest whistles and bells, but it wouldn't take me long to get back up to speed and get something done.
It's not a perfect analog, but I've noticed a similar pattern with gemini. Or at least with writing on here. Maybe 10-15 years ago I deliberately forced myself to write a blog at least 3 times a week for a coupe of years. I stopped in part because I found myself getting a bit ranty. Observing that writing here is vastly more pleasant than having to master R, I have found a similar pattern. I write sporadically for a bit, then drift away and just read for a a few months, then come back and write one or two things, and drift away again.
Thinking about it, the other place I have this pattern is with Obsidian. I've compiled a sizeable vault related to work things over the last few years. Sometimes I'll go for a couple of months without looking at it. And I very rarely use it for looking anything up, much like I very rarely go back and read what I've written here. The act of putting it down somewhere appears to be sufficient.
Sufficient for what I wonder? I ... really don't know. I don't know what it any of that means. The ADHD side of me is used to picking up new things, especially new organisational tools, using them for a month or two and then stopping for no particular reason. Apparently there is a subset of things that I pick up that break that pattern, and that I keep coming back to. Some of them are pleasant and cathartic (like writing here), some of them useful I guess (like Obsidian) and one of them is R.
